What your code contains
- vCard QR (static): your details are inside the pattern. It can't change — you need a new code and new cards.
- Link QR: the code holds a web address. If the page behind it changes, the code shows the new version.
- Dynamic QR from a subscription service: a short link you can re-point — while you keep paying.
Not sure? Scan it: a contact appears → vCard; a web address appears → link.
If your vCard QR is out of date
- Update your details in the builder on this page.
- Download the new QR code or card files.
- Order a small reprint, and stop handing out the old cards.
A sticker with the new QR code over the old one is a fair stop-gap for a small number of cards.
About card links
The card link from this site carries your details inside the link itself, so it's private and needs no account — but it also means a new link when details change. For printed cards whose details change often, the options are: keep the QR code to details that rarely change (name, mobile, email), keep your changing details on your own website and print its address, or accept a small reprint now and then.
Plan ahead
- Use a personal mobile and an email on your own domain — they outlast jobs.
- Leave volatile things (office address, desk phone) off the code.
- Print in smaller runs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change a QR code after printing?
Only if it's a link or dynamic code and the page behind it changes. A static vCard QR can't change.
How do I know if my QR code is static or dynamic?
Scan it. A contact means static vCard; a short web address on a QR company's domain means dynamic.
What's the cheapest way to fix outdated cards?
A small reprint — or a sticker with the new QR code for a few cards.
Does my FastCardGen card link change if I edit my details?
Yes. The details are in the link, so editing them makes a new link.
Contact files follow vCard 3.0 (RFC 2426); QR codes follow ISO/IEC 18004. Checked 2026-11-07.
