Why some QR codes stop working
Dynamic QR codes don't contain your details. They contain a short link to the generator's server, which then shows your contact. That lets you edit the code after printing — but if the trial ends or the subscription lapses, the server stops forwarding and the printed code shows a notice page instead. QR Code Generator's own help center, for example, says dynamic codes created in its free trial are deactivated when the trial ends, while static codes keep working.
Static vCard QR: the contact is the code
A static vCard QR code encodes your name, phone, email and company directly in the pattern. The phone reads it and offers Add to contacts without going online. Nothing can be switched off, because nothing is hosted. That's the only kind of code FastCardGen makes.
Static vs dynamic
| Static vCard QR (here) | Dynamic vCard QR | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Subscription after a trial |
| Expires | Never | When you stop paying |
| Works offline | Yes | No |
| Edit after printing | No — print a new code | Yes |
| Scan statistics | No | Yes |
| Code density | Grows with the details you add | Always small |
If you need to change your details often, put your card link in the QR code (choose “Opens my card link”) and share a new link when things change — or keep the QR to the essentials that rarely change: name, mobile, email.
Check a code before you print it
Scan the code with your phone. If the result is a short web address on a QR company's domain instead of a contact, it's dynamic and depends on that company. A vCard code shows the contact immediately.
QR Code Generator is trademarks of their owners. FastCardGen is not affiliated with them. Competitor plans and prices are as listed on their websites and in public reviews in November 2026 and change often — check their pricing page before you decide.
Frequently asked questions
Is this vCard QR code really free forever?
Yes. It's made in your browser and contains your contact directly. There's no account, trial or subscription, and it works even if this website disappeared.
Why did my old contact QR code stop working?
It was probably a dynamic code from a generator whose trial or subscription ended. Make a static vCard code here and replace it.
Can I use the QR code commercially?
Yes — on business cards, flyers, packaging, signs and anywhere else.
Can I edit a static QR code later?
No. Make a new one. For details that change, point the QR code to your card link instead.
Contact files follow vCard 3.0 (RFC 2426); QR codes follow ISO/IEC 18004. Checked 2026-11-07.
