Before the event
- Make your contact QR code and save it to your phone's photos — or add your card link to your home screen so it opens in one tap.
- Print a few cards with the QR code; some people still prefer paper.
- Put the QR code on your badge, booth sign, table tent or last slide. Print it at least 5 cm (2 in) for scanning from a step away.
At the event
- Turn your screen brightness up before showing the code.
- Say what it does: “Scan this, it saves my contact.” People hesitate with unknown QR codes.
- When someone gives you their card, photograph it — or ask them to scan yours and send you a message so you have their number too.
- Use a vCard QR for the booth: it works even when the hall's Wi-Fi doesn't.
After the event
- Follow up the same day or the next morning, mentioning what you talked about.
- Use an email signature with a “Save my contact” link. Make one
- For a booth team, make matching cards for everyone from one CSV. Team batch
Frequently asked questions
What's the fastest way to swap contacts?
Show a vCard QR code: the other person scans it with their camera and taps Add to contacts.
How big should a QR code be on a booth sign?
About 1/10 of the scanning distance: a 10 cm (4 in) code for one metre away.
Do I need Wi-Fi for a contact QR code?
No. A vCard QR code contains the contact itself.
Should I still bring paper cards?
A few, yes — with your QR code on them.
Contact files follow vCard 3.0 (RFC 2426); QR codes follow ISO/IEC 18004. Checked 2026-11-07.
